Twins born at 24 weeks survived: Now the boys are three years old – just look at them

Twins Charlie and Harvey Baker were born in May 2017 weighing just over a pound. Children born at 24 weeks of gestation rarely survive, but the boys proved to be real fighters and clung to life with all their might. According to the twins’ parents, Lucy Hall and Joseph Baker, they found out about the pregnancy at the sixth week, and screening at the end of the first trimester confirmed that Lucy was expecting twins.

At the 20th week of pregnancy, the expectant mother’s water began to break, and a month later, Lucy gave birth. The situation was so serious that the parents were not even allowed to take the children in their arms but immediately sent them to the children’s intensive care unit. “We saw the sons three hours after the birth, and suddenly the reality hit us.

They were so tiny. I didn’t even imagine that children could be so small, ”recalls Lucy. The doctors honestly warned the couple that the chances of the twins surviving were slim. It wasn’t until four long weeks later that Lucy and Joseph were finally allowed to take the children in their arms. It was the first serious step that gave hope to exhausted parents.

The twins underwent various medical procedures over the next several months, including seven blood transfusions. The children also had bronchiolitis. It wasn’t until four months after Charlie and Harvey were born that they were finally allowed to take them home.

The family was reunited despite all doubts and predictions. The children were still weak. A month after being discharged, Harvey again had to be admitted to the hospital – the boy suddenly stopped breathing. His lungs were so weak that they did not provide enough oxygen to the body. The child was able to return home only in May 2018. The boys are now three years old.

All difficulties are left behind – the twins are growing strong and healthy. Experts call their story a “medical miracle.” And Lucy and Joseph never cease to thank heaven for the fact that their sons remained alive after being born for such a short period of time
