Michella, who already had two daughters with her husband, Mark, welcomed her three sons – named Charles, Theodore and Gabriel – on January 15 via cesarean section when she was just over 35 weeks pregnant.
They were all perfect and their weights were amazing. They weight 2278, 2626 and 2775 grams, respectively. On average, newborn babies weigh 7.5lb, but between 5.5 and 10lb is considered normal.
She got real about the ‘extreme pain’ she was in leading up to the birth and afterwards, and many people were amazed by her strength – branding her a ‘superhero.’
In one post shared three days before she gave birth, Michella admitted that she ‘did not feel ready’ to welcome three new kids.
‘I seriously do not feel ready for three babies,’ she wrote. ‘I naively thought that I would get ready at some point – that I would feel a joy that the pregnancy is coming to an end and that we should finally meet our trio.
‘But if it were not for the extreme pain, the triplets would have to stay in the stomach for a month or three more. It all just feels so overwhelming.
Michella said she wanted to ‘curl up in a corner and sob over how unimaginable it all seemed.’
In a video posted the night before she gave birth to her three baby boys, which has wracked up thousands of likes and comments, she also admitted that she was ‘insanely scared.’
She said, ‘It feels so unreal to have to have three babies [coming] and it’s like my head can not handle it. I simply can not imagine it or them.
‘Instead, it rolls around with ugly thoughts. Can I do it? Can they do it? ‘But luckily I know that the only thing that matters to me tomorrow is whether the boys are doing well.
‘And on that front, I can throw my arms up – because we did! We have been holding on to them for over 35 weeks. And then we can not really do more than hope for the best.’
After welcoming her three sons, the mom called the birth the ‘wildest 36 hours’ of her life. ‘I’m in grotesque pain,’ she wrote afterwards. ‘And right now I can not see myself out of that nightmare.
‘Fortunately, it helps when lying with three adorable boys on your chest. Yep, I’ve already had the pleasure of having them all up at once – and it was completely magical.’
In the end, Michella said it was all ‘worth it’ and said that her heart was ‘bursting with happiness and love’ over her three new babies.
‘There is emptiness in my stomach, but my heart and my arms have never been so full of love and happiness,’ she gushed on Instagram.
‘The boys are absolutely amazing! That’s how easy it can be summed up. They are mild and mega cool and we are completely in love. It’s hardly any surprise that we are in the most wonderful baby bubble.’
‘The caesarean section is not bothersome – unless I have to cough, sneeze or (God forbid) vomit. ‘But my intestines roll around in the big cavity, which is both uncomfortable and hurts.
‘My uterus lies right next to the skin and is super sensitive – the slightest touches hurt the curse. ‘And the last few days, the stomach has felt like a big black mark It even hurts to breathe.’
Michella also revealed that her doctors had discovered that blood had built up in her uterus which her body ‘couldn’t get rid of’ – increasing the risk of inflammation – so she is now planning to undergo a scraping procedure. A scraping procedure is a type of surgery where doctors go in and remove abnormal tissues from the body.
Because identical twins or triplets share genetic material, they are always the same sex. The sex of a baby is determined by the particular sperm cell that fertilizes the egg at conception. There are two kinds of sperm cells — those carrying an X chromosome or Y chromosome. The mother’s egg carries an X chromosome. If a sperm cell carrying an X chromosome fertilizes the egg, it will make a XX combination (female). If the sperm cell is carrying a Y chromosome, you end up with an XY pairing (male).
Identical multiples start as one egg and then split, so whatever chromosome combination is present at fertilization is the sex of all multiples.
