A grieving mother felt hopeless after her newborn son passed away. She had dreamt about their life together, but it wasn’t meant to be. Her heart’s desire was to fall pregnant again—she had no idea that four miracles were coming!
Lorraine Cusack and her spouse Johnny Byrne were excited parents-to-be. They tried to conceive for a year and were delighted when Lorraine tested positive. She had a problem-free pregnancy and couldn’t wait to meet her son, Dylan.
The couple from Dublin, Ireland had no reason to believe that tragedy was waiting around the corner. Their worst nightmare became a reality nine hours after they welcomed Dylan into the world.
Doctors revealed that baby Dylan had a health condition and rushed him to the intensive care unit. The little one’s parents had barely spent time with him when the devastating news of his passing came.
While they were allowed to spend some time with him after his death, Lorraine couldn’t shake the feeling that he would be okay. She expressed, “Every part of me just wanted to have that baby in my arms.”
The couple was shocked but delighted by the news. Sadly, their joy was interrupted by various medical concerns.
The couple had moved into a new home and prepared everything for their first baby. It was heartbreaking leaving the hospital without their son, and the grief-stricken mother added:
“Everything had been set up and focused on Dylan, we bought a new house, we moved everything in and him not being there just felt so wrong.”
Amid their mourning, Lorraine and Johnny tried to have another baby. They were surprised when four months after Dylan’s passing, an at-home pregnancy test indicated they had conceived again.
Due to the loss of baby Dylan, doctors treated Lorraine’s pregnancy with extra caution. At the eight-week mark, she had an early scan, and her life changed forever.
The scanographer was perplexed by what she saw on the screen. She revealed that there were multiple heartbeats! Lorraine recalled:
“And she moved it again and said ‘there’s a fourth heartbeat.’ I was in pure shock. I just couldn’t believe it. I said ‘four, four babies?'”
The mother was carrying quadruplets, and it was a true miracle, with the odds of it happening being around 700,000 to 1. The couple was shocked but delighted by the news.
Sadly, their joy was interrupted by various medical concerns. Two of the babies shared one amniotic sac, and there were many risks. The mother also knew her kids would be delivered prematurely, resulting in various worries.
The babies were scheduled to be delivered via C-section on December 11, 2020, because Lorraine would have reached the 32-week mark. However, things changed when she arrived for her scan on December 4.
Her doctor noticed potential issues and said, “Let’s just deliver them today.” Three hours later, Nathan, Cooper, Erin, and Eve Byrne were born—they were the perfect Christmas gift!
