Calena and BJ couldn’t contain their excitement as they prepared to adopt the two little daughters. Unbelievably, only a few weeks later, they found out that they would soon be blessed with two other tiny miracles.
The building of a family takes time, at least the vast majority of the time. Without its share of unexpected occurrences, fortunate accidents, and other such occurrences, it simply could not be called “life.”
The road of becoming a parent is often full of unexpected turns and twists, but for one couple, it seemed as though those shocks just kept piling on top of one another!
Calena and BJ Durel are locals of Cincinnati, and they have one of the strangest stories you’ll ever hear!
The couple were going through the motions of attempting to start a family but were having difficulty due to the challenges of infertility. 15 percent of married couples report having difficulty conceiving children, indicating that this is an all too prevalent issue.
Because of the dramatic advances that have been made in technology, a growing number of couples are now in a position to conquer the challenge together. That prospect was about to become a lived experience for Calena and BJ.
After more than five years of infertility treatment, the Durels made the final decision to expand their family through adoption.
Even though the afternoon came to a quick end, the pair never stopped thinking about the girls. One of the ways in which they were able to maintain their connection with one another was by taking the kids to school on occasion. After waiting a whole two years, they finally got a phone call.
It was inquired of the Durels whether or not they would be interested in adopting Mariah and Aubree.
After reaching an agreement, the pair couldn’t contain their joy! Despite the devastating effects of their battle with infertility, they are now blessed with the presence of two daughters in their lives. Everything was falling into place in the most enchanting fashion… until one morning, when Calena awoke with a strong stomach ache and a feeling of being sick to her stomach.
The couple at first assumed that their nerves were to blame because the adoption was so close at hand.
Durel recalled: “We said, ‘Absolutely. A few weeks later, I started feeling sick and I thought it was the nerves over whether or not we’d get to adopt them.”
After a short test, it was determined that the Durels were indeed pregnant their own children weeks before they adopted two beautiful girls of their own. After struggling with infertility for eight years, all of a sudden, their hopes of becoming parents and adopting a child were coming true at the same time.
But that wasn’t the only thing that would surprise them
They received shocking news when Calena went in for her ultrasound: they were expecting twins! Two more members were set to join a planned family of four! It might be referred to as a miracle by some and as a lovely surprise by others. Whatever the case, the entire family was overjoyed to have tripled in size over night!
