The Couple Thought They Were Having Triplets But Actually Had Four Babies

It was already a huge surprise for the couple when they found out that they were expecting triplets, but it soon became clear that they would have four babies. The father fainted from the excitement in the delivery room.

The chances of someone having naturally ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠᴇᴅ quadruplets – and they are all girls – are 700,000 to 1. Gemma Robson and her partner Andy Raine are one of the few couples who have this good fortune.

The parents found out at the 12th week ultrasound that they were expecting triplets and were already very surprised, but while they started to prepare to receive the three babies, at the 17th week the doctor also discovered a fourth ꜰᴇᴛᴜs.

Andy admitted he almost fainted when they were told the news. “I couldn’t believe it when they said we were having quadruplets, and I almost fainted,” he said.

Gemma and Andy then had several weeks to prepare for the birth of the four babies, but it took a while for them to really grasp what was happening, and their worries only subsided after the twins were born.

“It’s a wonderful feeling to see them here now,” said the proud father.

The birth was not without its problems, and the babies still had to face many challenges. The twins were originally due in December, but Gemma went into ʟᴀʙᴏʀ on November 18. At first, the woman didn’t think ʟᴀʙᴏʀ had actually started, but when she couldn’t stand up from the constant contractions, they went to the hospital.

The doctor determined they needed to do an ᴇᴍᴇʀɢᴇɴᴄʏ C-sᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ and the girls were born the next morning. The ordeal was a great challenge for Gemma, but she did not have time to process what had happened. On the one hand, she was relieved, because the four ꜰᴇᴛᴜsᴇs were already starting to be very difficult, but she was also worried, because she knew that it would not be easy for them as premature babies.

Andy didn’t handle the stress well either, and he ended up missing the birth of his daughters because he passed out from the excitement. He only remembers waking up on the delivery room floor with a pillow under her head when the babies were all born.

Dani, Skye, Mia, and Taylor were all born at 1.3 kilos, and the doctors said they would have to stay in the N.I.C.U for at least 3 more months before they could go home.

At the time, the parents were not yet living together, but they requested a house from the local municipality where the whole family could fit – in addition to the four newborns, Gemma also has a daughter from a previous relationship, Millie Grace.

Although Dani, Skye, Mia, and Taylor could not go home immediately, Gemma and Andy regularly visited their daughters in the hospital and prepared everything in their new home for their arrival. Originally, they wanted a stroller that could fit all four babies, but in the end, they had to give it up and ended up buying two twin strollers.

“I’m really looking forward to all the girls being home, but it’s very scary to go from one child to five right away,” admitted the mother.

Andy and Gemma will then have to juggle parenting and work, but they say that no matter what the future holds for them, the important thing is that they’re all together.

Andy recently shared a post on social media – the photo shows Mia, Skye, and Dani at the family home. Taylor hasn’t been able to go home yet, but her parents hope she can join her sisters soon.
