Taylor-Danielle Pearson, 27, met Irene Smith, 81, while she was volunteering for the elderly. The women quickly found a common language and became friends. Irène was widowed ten years ago and has been on her own ever since.
And now, thanks to a new friendship, she has a “foster family” – a daughter, a grandson and three granddaughters. The children fell in love with “Grandmother Irene” with all their hearts.
She comes regularly to visit them, play with them and give gifts. And of course, they will celebrate Christmas together.
Taylor-Daniel wants to inspire others with her example, who also have the opportunity to do a good deed and invite lonely seniors to their vacations. Her husband, Michael Pearson, supports his wife in this noble endeavour.
Irene Smith has spent the last ten years alone. Before meeting her new family, she only left the house once a week.
“Irene lacked a family environment, and when we met her, I immediately knew that I wanted to accept her into my family. I invited her for tea. The kids loved it! It was reciprocity at first sight. Irene and we felt she was one of us,” Taylor says.Communicating with children gives her the strength to enjoy life again.
“Last year we had a wonderful Christmas. The children were eager to open their presents, and so was I. And I can’t wait for Christmas.
I have already got used to the family, to the children, I feel like their grandmother. This year we will be celebrating the holidays out of town, in a big company. I am very excited ! Irene is happy.
